Microsoft closes with market cap above 1 trillion


Microsoft Corp. closed with a market value of above $1 trillion Tuesday, joining rival tech giant Apple Inc. as the only two U.S. companies to do so. Shares closed the regular session up 0.6% to $130.60. Microsoft is the second U.S. company to hit the trillion-dollar valuation after Apple, which has since retreated below $1 trillion. Amazon.com Inc. has only touched $1 trillion in intraday trading. Microsoft stock has gained 40% in the past year, as the S&P 500 index rose 11%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average , of which Microsoft is a component, rose 10% in the past year.
